Other Reports

Nature options gain space in the Cuban leisure market, supported by unique attractions in the archipelago and the growing interest of visitors by this modality.

In that same direction, the specialized events like Turnat, dedicated in the edition of 2017 to Holguín and the provinces of the Cuban east stand out.

The event will be an opportunity to expose, exchange and share criteria and experiences about this tourist modality and be aware of the products and destinations that Cuba proposes.

This biennial meeting will allow tour operators, travel agents, tourists, scholars and nature lovers to meet, exchange opinions and nourish themselves on topics and trends related to Ecotourism and Adventure Tourism.

The region of Cuba that will serve as a venue includes parts of the provinces of Holguin and Guantanamo (Baracoa in particular) a territory of appreciable natural values, landscapes, biodiversity of flora and fauna and notable endemism.

One of the biggest attractions in the area is the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.

In turn, Holguin has the merit of having in its territory Bariay, where for the first time the Genoese Admiral Christopher Columbus stepped on Cuban soil, witnessing for history the beauty of the island.

Coastal areas of singular beauty are in Guardalavaca, Playa Esmeralda and Pesquero, together with the options offered by the natural park Bahía de Naranjo or the possible encounter with the aborigines in the archaeological site Chorro de Maíta.

Meanwhile, in the Granma province there is the exclusivity of having almost 50 percent of the historical sites of the Cuban archipelago, including the city of Bayamo, the second town founded by the Spanish in 1513 and declared a National Monument.

In Cuba's westernmost tip is Pinar del Río, the land of the best tobacco in the world, which complements its offer with the Viñales Valley - Cultural Heritage of Humanity - Las Terrazas complex, the first tourism project with Sustainable development of the country in rural areas and the benefits of the medicinal waters of San Diego de los Baños.

The greater diversity of tourist attractions in the western region is concentrated in Matanzas, headed by the world-famous Varadero beach, with a wide range of offers to satisfy the most demanding tastes.

The options include in particular the Cayo Piedras del Norte marine park, ideal for diving, and the ecological reserve of Punta Hicacos with its 662 species of birds in Mangon Lagoon, together with the aboriginal pictographs of the Ambrosio and Musulman caves.

In the southern area of Matanzas, the Ciénaga de Zapata Biosphere Reserve is located, a stronghold of nature tourism and ideal for the practice of scuba diving, besides being considered as the largest wetland in the Caribbean.
