Jibacoa: A Beach on the North Coast
Date: AUG 31, 2015
Other Reports

Mayabeque province, according to the latest geographical division in Cuba (2010), offers excellent beaches with peculiar characteristics as they are linked to beautiful landscapes and hills that enhance the beauty of the sea.

The new province consists of 11 municipalities that used to belong to former Havana province, being San José de las Lajas its capital town.

The name Mayabeque comes from the river and beach of the same name in the south coast, which is considered the foundational site of the then Village of San Cristóbal de La Habana in 1514.

In that region, Jibacoa, on the north coast, excels, with a peculiar design as a result of hills that are up to 100 meters higher than those surrounding them and are covered by green vegetation that contrast with the blue of the sea and the sky.

The coast is characterized by coves, so Jibacoa, El Fraile and El Abra are surrounded by hills and precipices that provide great attractions.

Blue crystal-clear waters are complemented by fine white sands and sea bottoms inhabited by corals, fish and mollusks, with the presence of flooded caverns.

The region is well preserved, because its exploitation started a few years ago, in addition to being protected by the largest coral reef in the western hemisphere and the second largest in the world.

Nature programs are promoted at camping sites like El Abra, Los Cocos, Las Caletas, La Laguna, Peñas Blancas and Playa Amarilla, where tourists can enjoy a wide range of options, including ecological tourism.

In the resort, the four-star Hotel Breezes Jibacoa offers several options for couples and guest over 14 years of age.

At the hotel, guests have access to an almost-pristine environment with crystal-clear waters and all amenities that characterize modern tourism.

With hills and exuberant vegetation, as well as a breathtakingly beautiful countryside landscape in the background, as well as an excellent beach protected by a coral reef, the Hotel Breezes Jibacoa recreates an ancient farm by the beach and it is in the middle of the way between Havana and Varadero, in the isolated Arroyo Bermejo Beach.

The hotel offers swimming pools, bars, restaurants, a night club, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, a golf course, gymnasium, game hall and aquatic sports.

For accommodations, tourists can also stay at Villa Trópico, which offers 150 rooms and options for those seeking calm and being in contact with nature, including scuba diving and snorkeling.

In addition to Jibacoa, there are excellent beaches nearby like Boca de Jaruco and El Abra, where excellent conditions exist for scuba diving and snorkeling.

Near Jibacoa is Puerto Escondido and Peñón del Fraile, which offer tourists the possibility of enjoying a beautiful marine landscape and the presence of oil and gas wells.
