Copacabana Hotel: A Brazilian Imprint in Havana
Date: SEP 24, 2001
Other Reports

Cuba's tourist industry, in frank expansion over the past few years, has lodging facilities of very different characteristics that can meet the needs of the most demanding guests.

Hotels linked to the traditional offers of sun and beaches, oriented towards the spreading of traditions and history, and specialized in business or health tourism complement the wide gamut of lodging facilities throughout the country, already exceeding 36,000 rooms.

These are the characteristics of the Copacabana Hotel, located on the northern coast of the Cuban capital and considered by many an imprint of Brazil in the largest Antillean island, in addition to being a place where Cuban traditions have blended with universality.

The particularity of the four-star Copacabana Hotel, run by the Gran Caribe Group, is its location in the residential neighborhood of Miramar, where it totally integrates into the harmony of the urban environment, also giving the area a touch of class.

The hotel is also located at a short distance from major commercial firms, companies and embassies, thus becoming an alternative venue for businesspeople interested in the Cuban market.

With that objective, its meeting rooms, which bear suggestive names such as Carioca, Amazon and Brazil, are available for anyone interested in holding rounds of negotiations, exhibitions or meetings.

For tourists who bet on the hotel as an option to enjoy their vacations, the sea and the city are at a hand's reach, in a quiet environment that differs from the traditional activity that characterizes hotels in big cities.

Inaugurated in 1955 as the Copacabana Yatch Club and with only 88 rooms, the hotel was reopened in 1992, after a capital reconstruction that increased its capacity to 168 rooms, including four suites.

Its relationship with the giant South American country is reflected in the most varied details, ranging from the hotel's logo - a bird known as toucan - to the restaurants, bars and dancing halls bearing Brazilian names.

Swimming pools of fresh and natural water integrate into the offer of services provided by the Copacabana Hotel, in an atmosphere that becomes familiar thanks to the staff's attention and the intimate environment surrounding the building.

Of course, its location by the sea turns diving into a priority among the facility's offers, giving guests the chance of training under the tutelage of experienced instructors before submerging into the warm waters surrounding Cuba.

Gyms, tennis courts and nautical activities are combined to design a variant of active rest, complemented by the hotel's gastronomy in restaurants such as Toucan, where every night is devoted to the cuisine of a different country, or Itapoa.

Cuban and international music is also present at the Ipanema Discotheque, one of the most popular in the capital and a true complement to relaxation in this hotel, which has become a remembrance of Brazil in Cuba.
