Cuba: Sun and Beaches in the Caribbean
Date: NOV 26, 2012
Other Reports

The Cuban archipelago, strategically located in the Caribbean, has unique tourist attractions distributed along the country for the traditional sun and beach leisure programs.

Dozens of excellent beaches with white sand and pleasant water temperature are available for vacationers who can also enjoy the hotel and service infrastructure which complement the offer.

Nevertheless, there are other unique options like the black sand of Bibijagua beach, in the Isle of Youth; or the brownish-gray sand of Marea del Portillo, in the eastern province of Granma.

The abovementioned options are complemented by more than 30 specialized diving centers which can be found throughout the country, including facilities for beginners’ courses, as well as diving in coral reefs and caverns, always under the international standards for such activities.

Close to 6,500 varieties of fish, crustaceans, sponges and mollusks, together with several coral species, make up one of the best-preserved submarine ecosystems in the region.

Diving enthusiasts can enjoy an actual complement of the tourist industry in more than 70,000 kilometers of island shelf, with about 5,000 kilometers of coastline bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.

In addition, several facilities which are properly equipped, are available for those who enjoy sailing and decide to dock in the island or sail in its neighboring seas.

In general, the marinas ensure the indispensable and basic services of potable water, electricity, fuel, communication and cable television, although there is an infrastructure providing comfortable lodgings for the most demanding tastes.

Places like Varadero, in the western province of Matanzas; Holguín, Trinidad and Santiago de Cuba are gaining special relevance, thanks to the development of the tourist infrastructure and the design of new recreational options.

Also, many recreational opportunities can be found in the numerous islets which make up the Cuban archipelago, among them, Cayo Largo del Sur, which is precisely a particular leisure destination with 24 kilometers of excellent beaches and fine white sand which prevents excessive heating.

The Ancón peninsula, in the central area of the country, has one of the best Cuban beaches in the southern coast, with a sea bottom characterized by a steep relief and abundant black coral.

Santa Lucía, in the province of Camagüey, is regarded as an undisclosed Eden and one of the best beaches in Cuba and the world, with cream-colored sand and facilities for the practice of a wide range of nautical activities.
